About

In 2003 classical ballet dancer Christine Mills, started the Cedar City Junior Ballet Company, a classical ballet company designed to involve community talent of all ages. Their first performance was Coppelia – a lighthearted ballet that takes place in a village and involves an entire community in its love affair. Soon after that first performance she enlisted the help of her sister Lise Mills to sew tutus and perform in the ballet. Lise had been dancing and performing on the stage since she was three years old, much of that time with her sister Christine. That collaboration was the beginning of the CCJB which has brought beautiful classical ballet performances of Cinderella, The Sleeping Beauty, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Coppelia to the community. Recently added to their repertoire is Peter and the Wolf, The Puppet-Showman and The Secret Garden.

Our debut performance was in 2003 performing Coppelia. Since that time, we have performed a full-length classical ballet every year. Our goal is to enrich the community arts by maintaining the highest standards of classical ballet. Our mission is to perform classical ballet in its purest form.

We hold open auditions every September and invite the entire community to participate. Fifty plus dancers spend 7 months practicing for a ballet that brings a unique experience to Southern Utah by allowing dancers of all skill levels from age 4 to adult to participate in a classical full-length ballet. Every child or adult dancer or performer who auditions is given the opportunity to participate in the annual ballet performance and training.

CCJB also has classical ballet training classes throughout the year. To find out more about our training opportunities visit our classes page
